May News from BDO Latvia

May has been a dynamic and inspiring month at BDO Latvia, marked by meaningful community engagement, international collaboration, and a strong commitment to sustainability.

Earlier this month, Executive MBA students from Riga Business School took part in a study visit to Zambia, which became a valuable example of international cooperation. The initiative was made possible through collaboration between BDO Latvia, BDO Zambia, the University of Lusaka, and Riga Business School. This experience not only enriched the students' academic journey but also provided in-depth insights into Zambia’s business and tax environment. Special thanks go to our colleague Edgars Voļskis, who initiated and helped bring this cooperation to life. The lectures were delivered by Kafumu Mbewe and Jonathan Ambali from BDO Zambia – seasoned professionals who shared valuable knowledge and practical experience. We would also like to thank Nellija Titova from RBS and Professor Mlenga Jere from the University of Lusaka, as well as all the students who actively contributed to the program.

Continuing our commitment to sustainability, the BDO Latvia team took part in a tree planting initiative in cooperation with our partners “Ziemeļu meži” in Ropaži municipality. Around 1,000 trees were planted, contributing to long-term environmental impact through carbon dioxide absorption and ecosystem support. Such activities not only promote ecological responsibility but also foster team spirit and shared purpose. We sincerely thank all participating colleagues for their enthusiasm and energy, and extend our gratitude to Ziemeļlatvijas meži for the opportunity to be part of this important effort.

We were also pleased to welcome representatives from the Children’s Hospital Foundation – Liene Dambiņa and Evita Zābere – who visited our office to express their gratitude for the audit services provided during the 2024 financial year. For the third consecutive year, the BDO Assurance team has offered audit services to the foundation on a pro bono basis, supporting their vital work in improving children's health and well-being in Latvia. We are proud of this ongoing collaboration and deeply value the trust placed in us.

May concluded with our colleagues participating in the Rimi Riga Marathon – a tradition we are proud to continue. Despite the rainy weather, ten members of the BDO Latvia team represented the firm across three distances – 6 km, 10 km, and 21 km. Their perseverance, determination, and team spirit were evident throughout the event, and we commend their commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle.

These moments reflect BDO Latvia’s continued dedication to being not only a reliable and professional partner to our clients, but also an engaged and responsible member of both the local and global community.
