BDO Latvia Opens Applications for the 2025 “BDO Jauno mākslinieku balva”

BDO Latvia, in cooperation with the Art Academy of Latvia and the contemporary art centre Kim?, announces the call for applications for the open competition “BDO jauno mākslinieku balva”.

The aim of the competition is to support young artists who have completed their master’s studies in visual arts, visual-plastic arts or audiovisual media at the Art Academy of Latvia in 2025, offering them an opportunity to gain visibility, professional recognition and to foster their artistic development.

This initiative continues to strengthen the tradition of patronage in Latvia, promoting the growth of the art sector and encouraging the involvement of private organisations in supporting culture.

Who can apply

The competition is open to graduates of the Art Academy of Latvia’s 2025 master’s programmes in visual arts, visual-plastic arts or audiovisual media.

Applicants must submit an artwork of their choice for evaluation by the jury — a graphic work, sculpture, painting, original design work or object — using either selected artistic techniques or techniques developed by the author.

Award

The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of EUR 2000.
The finalists’ works will be exhibited at the art space “Pilot”, and the date of the final exhibition will be announced together with the list of finalists.

Application

Applications must be submitted by 18 January 2026 at 12:00, sending the required materials to the competition coordinator:

The application must include:

  • photographs of the artwork (jpeg format; for 3D works – from all sides);

  • the author’s contact information;

  • the artwork title, dimensions, materials used, techniques and author’s techniques, year and place of creation;

  • a description of the artwork (up to 2 pages);

  • a description of the author’s education and professional experience (up to 2 pages);

  • a copy of the LMA master’s diploma (the original must be presented upon request).

After submitting the application, the participant will receive a confirmation email acknowledging receipt of the materials.

The works will be evaluated by a professional jury:

The evaluation process will take place from 19 January to 27 January 2026.
Finalists and the winner will be selected based on the choice and justification of the artwork’s theme, the use of materials and techniques, artistic quality, and the applicant’s professional activity within the art field.
