On January 7, an exhibition was opened in the experimental art space “PILOT” and the winner of the “BDO Young Artists Award 2021” was awarded. This year the prize of EUR 2000 was won by Reinis Berzins with his artwork “///(((!”.
The work ///(((! consists of several sculptural objects and oil paintings on canvas, which are based on the idea of sound. Their visual solutions show parallels with musical instruments, sound equipment, reverse engineering practice, as well as some unknown, parallel lives. Visual exploration carries audio experiences and sources into the analogies of the visual language and the transcendental.
Reinis Berzins was nominated in the final, after the jury meeting at the end of last year, together with 6 other artists. The decision on the winner of the competition was made in a closed session, evaluating the works of all seven finalists - Amanda Krumina, Brenda Linda Jansone, Kristine Daukste, Liana Mihailova, Madara Kvepa, Reinis Berzins, Ugis Albins.
The exhibition will be open to visitors until February 28, 2022, in compliance with the restrictions set by the Republic of Latvia for the control of the Covid-19 virus.
The “BDO Young Artists Award” is an initiative of BDO Latvia, in cooperation with the Latvian Academy of Arts, KIM? a contemporary art center and PILOT experimental art space, which aims to support young artists after completing a master's degree in visual art or audio-visual media or design at the Latvian Academy of Arts, with the aim of helping them gain recognition and appreciation.
